Understanding the Three Types of Betting Odds

PlusPH lets you view odds in multiple formats. Here's what each one means and how to calculate your potential payout in Philippine Peso.

Decimal Odds

The default format at PlusPH and the easiest for most Filipino bettors to understand. The number represents your total return per ₱1 wagered — including your original stake back.

Payout = Stake × Odds
e.g., ₱500 × 2.50 = ₱1,250 return

Odds of 2.00 mean you double your money. Odds above 2.00 mean the outcome is considered an underdog. Odds below 2.00 mean the favourite.

Fractional Odds

Traditional British format showing profit relative to stake. Less common at PlusPH but available on request. The top number is profit, the bottom is the stake required to earn it.

Profit = Stake × (Num/Den)
e.g., ₱500 at 3/2 = ₱750 profit

3/1 (spoken as "three-to-one") means you earn ₱3 profit for every ₱1 bet. 1/3 ("one-to-three") means you need ₱3 to win ₱1 — a heavy favourite.

Moneyline (US) Odds

American format based on a ₱100 unit. Positive numbers show how much you win on a ₱100 bet; negative numbers show how much you must bet to win ₱100.

+150: Win ₱150 on ₱100 bet
-150: Bet ₱150 to win ₱100

PlusPH defaults to decimal but you may encounter moneyline on imported odds feeds. Converting to decimal: (+ML/100)+1 or (100/|ML|)+1 for negative lines.

What Betting Odds Really Mean — A Practical Guide for Filipino Bettors

Odds Are a Price Tag on Probability

The simplest way to think about betting odds is as a price tag on a specific outcome. At PlusPH, when you see decimal odds of 2.50 on a basketball team winning, you're being told two things simultaneously: first, your potential payout is ₱2.50 for every ₱1 wagered; second, the platform's implied probability of that team winning is 40% (calculated as 1 ÷ 2.50).

The key insight for smarter betting is that odds reflect the bookmaker's probability estimate — not necessarily the true probability. If you believe a team has a 50% chance of winning, but the odds imply only 40%, that represents a potential value bet. Over many bets, identifying these gaps between implied probability and your own assessment is how sharp bettors maintain long-term profit.

Understanding the Overround at PlusPH

Every sportsbook — including PlusPH — builds a margin into its odds, called the overround or "juice." If you add up the implied probabilities of all outcomes in a market, the total will exceed 100%. That excess percentage is the bookmaker's theoretical edge. PlusPH keeps our overround among the tightest in the Philippine market, typically between 2% and 4% on major sports markets like Premier League football, NBA basketball, and UFC events.

To calculate the overround yourself: sum (1 ÷ odds) for each outcome and multiply by 100. A perfect 100% would mean no margin. In practice, 104% means the book retains about 4% theoretically. At PlusPH, our average payout rate across all sports markets is 98% — meaning you're getting back more of what you put in compared to many competitors.

How Live Odds Work at PlusPH

PlusPH offers in-play (live) betting on most major sports events. When a match is in progress, odds shift in real time based on what's happening on the field, court, or cage. A team going down 2-0 in football will see their odds to win the match lengthen dramatically, while the opposing team's odds shorten. For MMA events popular with Filipino fans, odds can shift significantly between rounds.

Live odds at PlusPH update every few seconds during active play. This creates opportunities — if you spotted something the algorithm hasn't adjusted for yet, you can find genuine value. It also creates risk, since odds can move against you between the time you initiate a bet and when it's confirmed. PlusPH uses a brief acceptance window to protect both you and the platform during fast-moving moments.

Asian Handicap — Popular with Filipino Football Bettors

Aside from the standard 1X2 market, PlusPH also offers Asian Handicap betting — a format that's particularly popular among Filipino football fans who follow the EPL, La Liga, and the Philippine national team. Asian Handicap removes the draw outcome by giving one team a virtual head start. This evens out the probability between two unevenly matched teams and effectively creates a two-way market with better value odds on both sides.

For example, if Manchester City is playing against a lower-ranked team, a standard market might price City at 1.25 — poor value for the risk. An Asian Handicap line might give the opponent a +1.5 goal head start, creating a more balanced market with both sides near 2.0. PlusPH includes full Asian Handicap lines on most top-tier football leagues.

Frequently Asked Questions About Betting Odds at PlusPH

Straight answers to what Filipino bettors ask us most about how odds work at PlusPH.

PlusPH displays odds in decimal format by default — the format most Filipino bettors find easiest to read. Decimal odds show your total return per ₱1 wagered including your original stake. You can switch the display to fractional or moneyline format in your account settings at any time. The underlying odds and your potential payout remain identical regardless of which format you choose — it's purely a display preference.

Odds fluctuate based on incoming bet volume, market news, injury reports, team lineup changes, and in-play events during live matches. Once your bet is accepted and confirmed at PlusPH, your odds are locked in at the price displayed at confirmation — even if the market subsequently moves. If odds change during the brief confirmation window, PlusPH will either accept the bet at the original odds or, for significant movements, prompt you to accept the new price before the bet is placed.

For a parlay (also called an accumulator or combo bet) at PlusPH, all individual odds are multiplied together, and your stake is applied to the combined figure. For example, if you parlay three selections with decimal odds of 2.00, 1.80, and 2.50, the combined odds are 2.00 × 1.80 × 2.50 = 9.00. A ₱500 parlay stake would return ₱4,500 total (₱4,000 profit) if all three selections win. All selections must win for the parlay to pay — a single loss results in the entire parlay losing.

PlusPH maintains a 98% average payout rate across our sports betting markets, which puts us among the most competitive platforms available to Philippine bettors. Our overround — the margin built into the odds — typically runs between 2% and 4% on major football, basketball, and MMA markets. We can't always guarantee the single best price on every selection, but across the full range of markets and sports we cover, PlusPH consistently offers fair and competitive odds. We recommend checking multiple markets on any given event to find your best value.
